Stitches From the Heart

Happy New Year! I think we have all been anticipating the arrival of 2021 since…. March. While circumstances around the globe are not as we had all hoped, I am really hopeful things will take a turn for the better this year.

To start off the year on a happy and positive note, I am excited to share a free quilt pattern and cross stitch pattern from The Fat Quarter Shop called Stitches From the Heart.

You can access the quilt pattern here:

The quilt pattern comes in two sizes, one that finishes at 35″ x 35″ and another at 12″ x 12″. I chose to make the 12″ size along with 1″ half-square triangle (HST) triangles on a roll papers. I have a love for tiny pieces, but I know that not everybody understands that or has the same love. I used 5 different shades of V and Co Ombre and I love the fun effect it gave this mini.

The lovely folks at Fat Quarter Shop have put together a quilt kit for their Bella Solids version of the 35″ quilt. I love kits because they take the guess work out of making a quilt. It is really fun to just open it up and get going.

I hope your 2021 is off to a safe and healthy start and that we can all focus on things that bring us joy this year.

Easter Parade Quilt in Easter Egg Hunt fabric for Riley Blake Designs

Easter. I know it’s December, but Easter. I have always LOVED Easter. It has always been my favorite holiday since I was a child. It used to be that I loved stuffed bunnies and the Easter Bunny would always bring me a new stuffed bunny every year. Enter Easter Egg Hunt fabric by Natalia Juan Abello and my squealing with delight when I saw the ADORABLE prints. I cannot even believe these bunnies are real. The colors, the florals, the bunnies, everything about this line are absolute Easter perfection, in my mind.

I knew immediately what I’d like to make with this line. Easter Parade by Kristina Brinkerhoff of Center Street Quilts. The bunnies would be the perfect setting for these cute prints, leaving enough space for them to be enjoyed without being chopped into tiny pieces.

I had a bit of a crazy idea when I was making this quilt top to add on these little fluffy bunny tails to a few of them. I chose one print and each bunny of that print got a little fluffy bunny tail. I followed Pen + Paper Patterns tutorial for her Kris Kringle hats, but modified the bunny pieces to .5″ x 1″ for the bunny tails.

I just love the added texture and element of fun these little bunny bums add to this quilt. My kids have all said this is their favorite Easter quilt (of the 2 I have HA!) and I think it’ll be a favorite for a long time to come. Easter Egg Hunt is shipping to stores this month and you can look for it at your favorite local quilt shop, or online shop.

Ties in Pure Delight Fabric for Riley Blake Designs

I have shared in the past my love of making neckties for my husband and sons. I have made them probably 13 ties each at this point in time…. 🙂 My husband works a job where he likes to wear a tie every day and my boys always want to look like dad, so they get a matching tie as well.

When I saw Pure Delight fabric by Melanie Colette, I immediately saw several prints that I thought would make fabulous neckties. I let my husband pick from the prints in the collection and these ties were born from that.

I paired the light blue print with a dusty blue Blossom fabric and the dark blue grid with a gray Swiss dot. Each looks like a classic tie with a fun pop on the lining that nobody but the wearer will ever see. My tie pattern of choice is by Dana Willard of MADE Everyday. It’s easy to follow and she includes a video as well for those of us who like to see things done first.

The Pure Delight fabric collection is hitting shops this month and there are florals, text prints, the grid print in different colors, etc etc etc. It works really well for quilting as well as apparel. Melanie has done a fabulous job making a versatile collection. Look for it in your favorite local quilt shop or your favorite online quilt shop.
